Week 1 College Football Scores and Updates: Georgia vs. Clemson, Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M, and More

It’s the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and the full chaos of college football has officially arrived.

Week 0 was just the warm-up, but this weekend the action really heats up with three matchups between teams ranked in the AP Top 25.

Thursday saw 21 games, including Colorado’s win over FCS powerhouse North Dakota State, followed by six more on Friday. Now, the stage is set for a packed Saturday. Here are the must-watch games of the weekend:

No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 14 Clemson

  • Time: Noon | TV: ABC | Line: Georgia -13.5 | Total: 48.5

The day kicks off with one of the most anticipated matchups of the week. Clemson is eager to get its offense on track after a challenging first season under offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, with QB Cade Klubnik returning. They'll face a formidable Georgia team led by Heisman contender QB Carson Beck. Despite missing key running backs Roderick Robinson (injury) and Trevor Etienne (suspension), the Bulldogs are still the heavy favorites in this neutral-site game in Atlanta.

No. 8 Penn State vs. West Virginia

  • Time: Noon | TV: Fox | Line: Penn State -8.5 | Total: 51.5

This game offers the first look at what could be a completely revamped Penn State offense. The Nittany Lions have brought in former Kansas co-offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to lead the offense, with the aim of improving QB Drew Allar’s performance in big games. West Virginia, who finished 9-4 last season, will provide a solid first test, especially with most of their high-scoring offense from last year returning.

No. 19 Miami at Florida

  • Time: 3:30 p.m. | TV: ABC | Line: Miami -2.5 | Total: 54.5

While the first game of the season doesn't define a team's year, this in-state rivalry certainly feels high-stakes. Miami enters the season with lofty expectations and a promising transfer QB in Cam Ward. The ACC title race could open up after Florida State's surprising loss to Georgia Tech last week. Meanwhile, Florida may need this game to secure bowl eligibility by season's end, given their talent on both sides of the ball and what is considered the toughest schedule in college football.

No. 7 Notre Dame at No. 20 Texas A&M

  • Time: 7:30 p.m. | TV: ABC | Line: Texas A&M -3 | Total: 46.5

Notre Dame never shies away from tough openers, and this year is no different. QB Riley Leonard makes his debut for the Irish after transferring from Duke, but he'll be playing behind a retooled offensive line that lost three starters from 2023. Texas A&M’s first-year head coach Mike Elko leads a defense with plenty of new faces but still loads of talent. QB Connor Weigman returns as the Aggies’ starter, hoping to stay healthy and lead his team through the season.
