Rapper Fatman Scoop dies at 53 after collapsing onstage during a concert.

Rapper Fatman Scoop, born Isaac Freeman III, has passed away at the age of 53. His family and tour manager, Birch Michael, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, though the official cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” read a statement on his Instagram page on behalf of his family. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life. Fatman Scoop was not just a world-class performer; he was a father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage,” the tribute continued.

The renowned hype man and radio personality was performing at a summer concert on Friday at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut, just six miles from New Haven, when he collapsed on stage. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett shared on Facebook that Fatman Scoop had a "medical emergency on stage" and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

"Fatman Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious, and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten," his family’s post stated.

“As we mourn the loss of Fatman Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched," the statement concluded. "Fatman Scoop’s legacy of love and brightness will reside in our hearts and memories forever."

Video footage circulating online shows the rapper, shirtless, energizing the crowd just moments before he collapsed, with a loud thud heard in the background. "Hold up, you gotta understand this. Big man, gotta relax, I’m stretching… Big man gotta chill," a voice over the mic said, sounding out of breath. "They ain’t got no fans on this stage. Jesus."

"I just want to say this, Hamden, where y’all at? Make some noise for me, heavy baby," were among his last words to the crowd before medical staff rushed to the stage and appeared to perform CPR.

Fatman Scoop’s tour manager, Michael, also paid tribute to the rapper, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the artist and the man behind the music.
