The decision to form an interim government headed by Dr. Yunus.

President Md. Sahabuddin has agreed to form an interim government headed by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced this decision last night after a lengthy four-hour discussion. The meeting, which began at 8 PM, included 13 student representatives, the heads of the three military branches, Dr. Asif Nazrul from the Department of Law at Dhaka University, and Dr. Tanzim Uddin Khan from the Department of International Relations.

Nahid Islam stated that the discussions were fruitful and that they received assurances regarding the interim government. President Sahabuddin agreed to have the universally respected Nobel laureate, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, as the head of this government. This government will be formed quickly, with participation from representatives of civil society and students. The process of forming the interim government will involve discussions with political parties, and the proposed student government will be established.

He further mentioned that the current situation was also discussed with the President and the military chiefs, who expressed deep concern over the unrest and violence. Students and the public will work to protect government infrastructure, and peace will be restored in the police force. For the time being, students will take over traffic management duties. Everyone needs to be vigilant to prevent sabotage, looting, and communal discord.

When asked about the members of the interim government, Nahid Islam said that the list has not been finalized and will not be disclosed at this time. The interim government will consist of 10-15 members and will be formed within 24 hours.

Nahid Islam also mentioned that Dr. Yunus will depart for the country tomorrow (today) and will take the oath after arriving. He thanked the military and urged everyone to maintain a peaceful environment. The students' responsibility is to monitor the situation. There are attempts to undermine the victory of the students and the public through planned attacks. Everyone must remain alert and not take the law into their own hands. Those who have committed crimes will be brought to justice through legal processes. We aim to build a peaceful Bangladesh.

During this time, Dr. Asif Nazrul explained the constitutional interpretation, stating that in extraordinary situations, there are various ways to legally validate the formation of an interim government under the constitution. The duration of the government has not been decided yet. This will be determined after Professor Yunus's arrival.
