Hamas Chief Haniyeh Dead: Iran's Revolutionary Guard


 

The Revolutionary Guard has announced that the head of Hamas has been killed.

According to the Revolutionary Guard's website, the house in Tehran where the Hamas leader was staying was attacked on Wednesday morning. Haniyeh's bodyguard was also killed.

It has been stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause, and the results will be announced soon.

In a separate statement, Hamas has reported that Haniyeh had gone to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new president. They claimed he was killed in Iran, and Hamas stated that his death was due to a "Zionist attack."

Who is Haniyeh?

Haniyeh joined Hamas in 1987. He became the Prime Minister of Palestine in 2006, although his appointment was contested by opposing factions, raising questions about its legitimacy. In 2017, he was elected as the head of Hamas' political bureau.

Since 2016, he had been living in exile in Qatar and Turkey, maintaining good relations with various Palestinian factions. Recently, he met with political leaders from Iran and Turkey.

He was last seen on Tuesday at the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new president. On Tuesday, he also met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
